Work smarter, not harder!

When it comes to any job you have I believe it’s necessary to work hard to get ahead, mind your own business, and be cordial towards your co-workers. However, I am against overworking yourself for a company that doesn’t give a damn about you. You will die and they will move on as if you did not exist. With that being said, companies will replace you very quickly because you are just another number in the system. Your best bet is to play the game and focus on doing your job well and not to be concerned with what everyone’s bullshit drama. We’ve all had that one boss that drove us crazy and almost insane with his or her system.

It’s reminiscent of the Spongebob Squarepants film, “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”. I watched it when I was a kid and recently re-watched it as an adult. Even though this is a cartoon Mr. Krabs is a corporate stooge who is untrustworthy and unloyal. Mr. Krabs doesn’t care about any of his employees and will overwork them for little to no pay. I’ll give you an example. In this film, Mr. Krabs announced who was going to be the next manager at the Krusty Krab. Instead of choosing Spongebob the employee who shows up on time with a smile on his face, is never late, actually enjoys where he works, strives for greatness and truly cares about the company. He chose Squidward, a slacker with a bad attitude, lazy and unmotivated. He does enough to just get by.

In the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Plankton stole King Neptune’s crown and framed Mr. Krabs. Sponge bob, the good, however, the naive co-worker that he is, risked his own life by rescuing King Neptune’s crown. After the film was over was Spongebob ever get his rightfully deserved promotion as manager? NO! I wouldn’t have risked my own life to save a boss who has overworked me and treated me as if I was disposable. That’s just me!

In this world, your mentality to your job should be similar to Squidward Tentacles. Squidward does enough and only enough because if you work too hard you’ll never get what you need, you’ll just get by and eventually, you’ll die. Spongebob is the hard working adult with a child’s mind. He hasn’t been able to adapt to the real world yet because he doesn’t understand that there really isn’t a payoff at a job. You need to just come in, do your job, go home and stop worrying about your boss’ approval so much.

Moral of the story: Go to your job and give it your best efforts. Do not make your job your whole life, especially for a boss like Mr. Krabs, the typical tyrant boss who will you make you want to quit and rightfully so because he will call you on your day off and ask, “Hey, I need you to come into work today. Can you do it?” DO NOT BE LIKE SPONGEBOB AND SAY YES! Say no like Squidward and say no because you deserve the day off. Mr. Krabs will just find somebody else anyway because he’s not your friend or family, he’s just a businessman running a business.
