The Fire of Peter

The Fire of Peter 

In Matthew 26:69-75 (New King James Version) Peter denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed. After realizing he did this, he wept.

Peter and the disciples see Jesus being resurrected (John 20) and now their faith is stronger than ever. As Peter and Jesus talk Jesus tells Peter to feed his sheep three times just like how Peter denied Him three times. (John 21:15-17).

Now in the book of Acts, Peter is on fire for God performing miracles and healing people. His newfound faith is amazing. It’s crazy to me that Peter denied the son of man, but now, he is testifying the power of Christ in front of everybody.

This is how powerful Christ is. The shame in Peter had been eradicated because he fully submitted himself to God’s will. But the Sadducees were not happy. They did not want anyone proclaiming Jesus the resurrection from the dead. Therefore, both Peter and John were arrested and put in custody until the next day for healing a man with the power of Jesus Christ. (Acts 4:1-4)

(Acts 4:8-10) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: ‘Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and is being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.

This is the persecution many Christians will face. When your stand firm on God’s Word expect this. In modern times, your social media account will drop (fewer likes, comments, shares), friends and family will ghost you, and you will feel alone, but you’re not. With Christ, we are never alone.

Fire, the average Christian is missing fire! As I look at my generation of men we have no fire which makes me sad. We lack the authority of Peter to smile in the face of persecution because we’ve been conditioned to fit in. Remember, Peter rejected Christ three times and he was still forgiven. But now, the average man just lives as follows:

◾Day by day
◾Listening to an audiobook of The Gospel
◾Not consistently seeking Him
◾Out of shape
◾Lazy and complacent
◾Addicted to pleasure

Atmosphere (Hip hop artist) once said, “Where did all the passion go?” In Hip Hop, there is a passion that is infectious because it just screams, “This is what I believe and I don’t care if you do or don’t.” If we are so passionate about sports, the gym, movies, and video games then we should have that same passion for the Gospel. Without the Gospel, our lives have no purpose. Life is just another day leaning upon one’s understanding.

When I was in my prayer room I realized I need to do more in my single season because I have been lazy. It’s not enough just to post the Gospel once or twice a week. I gotta’ step up because the old me is DEAD, now I am of Christ!

Therefore, I have done just that. My opposition has referred to me as self-righteous and judgmental. I am neither! I am just a humble servant of the Most High who understands that his soul is on the line. I still sin but I repent. I am a sinner saved by Grace which I cannot take lightly.

I welcome the persecution as I stand on the Gospel even if I die. This fire that Peter exhibits is one of the most inspiring stories in the Gospel for me because he once lost favor with God and realized, “Dang, I screwed up!?!” If you have not given God your best, you need to repent.

1 John 1:8, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

God wants us to have a relationship with Him. With that being said, how can you have a relationship with Him while you keep living in unrepentant sin? God wants to give you His anointing but you must come clean just like the scriptures says. He wants to make you a bold and brave creation but you are tied between the old you and what God called you to be. Surrender to Him and accept His will. Pick up your mat and bask in His glory. Tell them the Good News and accept the good, bad, and ugly of this walk on earth because we are called to bring lost souls to the Kingdom, not to be popular Christians who are scared to rub others the wrong way!
